We have so many spots around St. Louis that we love to photograph our engaged couples at, so we’ve come up with nine that we think stand out as the best. Let’s get started!
(In no particular order)
Lafayette Square Park
Beautiful in all seasons, but particularly stunning in autumn, Lafayette Square Park is a small park packed with so many intimate corners that are perfect for portraits. Surrounding the park are the unique Victorian homes of the Lafayette neighborhood. So we tend to venture out of the park during sessions for some photos highlighting the historic architecture, giving our couples a diverse blend of settings for their images.
Tower Grove Park
Tower Grove Park is the gardener’s park of St. Louis. Starting around April and lasting through on to October, the area around “The Ruins” is fill with some of the best landscaping in the city. From the tulips in the spring to the waterlily pond, Tower Grove is packed with a delightful variety of flora. We personally love taking portraits with the hydrangeas!
Your Favorite Restaurant
Ok, this is the first time we are “cheating”. This isn’t technically a place per se, but we love when couples choose to patronize their favorite local eatery. This may not be the most glamorous spot for portraits, but that the point! It’s an opportunity to embrace your special relationship and be yourself for portraits. And in St. Louis its pretty easy to find great food!
The Hill
So you may choose to use a park or your favorite restaurant for your engagement photos, but what about an entire neighborhood? Well, The Hill is that neighborhood. STL’s Italian community abounds with interesting shops, taverns, and just really interesting buildings perfect for portraits. As photographers, we are always attracted to charming and colorful walls. The Hill is the place to be!
The Art Museum/Art Hill
Ok, so this is the big obvious one on the list, but there is certainly a reason why Art Hill is so popular. Located in Forest Park, it very well may be the best view in the city. If you’re from STL, you know. Art hill does all the work for you when photographing there. Exploring the grounds of the Art Museum is a joy and always such a fun place to photograph.
21c Museum Hotel
The newest location on our list, 21c captured our attention right away and we have a feeling it will be a spot we recommend over and over. The word I would use is TEXTURES. There is such an array of backdrops to choose from and an endless supply of creative ways to capture our couples here.
The Jewel Box
The other Forest Park location on our list is The Jewel Box. This giant glass greenhouse a terrific spot for portraits year round. Even in winter the Jewel Box houses a variety of wonderful plants and last we checked it was only a couple bucks to get in. The rest of the year it is surrounded by attractive landscaping and sits behind an impressive lily pond.
Your Local Watering Hole
Another case of us “cheating”. If you have a favorite local bar and you’d love to just grab drinks and let loose while being photographed, this is the way to go. Simply put, this is just a lot of fun!
Your House!
Yep, the last one is a cheat too. Just stay home and we will come to you. Relax, make a pot of coffee, play a record. Be yourself and be comfortable in your happy place. Don’t worry we alway remember to take our shoes off at the door.
